I get your frustration and we want to get this out as soon as possible to you all, but we need to just check that everything’s working as it should since we don’t want the support channel all filled up with why it doesn’t work or something like that.
I understand that it’s very difficult to get the patch to work properly, but it’s been more than a month, because what I’m not going to do is pay to download the Nimbus 2.0 pre-release without knowing if it might prevent me from playing online due to any errors it may have.
If you ask any of the staff team here, we would not recommend donating specifically to access testing servers as it is.
The problem is that if you don’t donate, you can’t play many games because they’re only for testers. Nowadays, there are fewer games that require you to be a tester, but there are still some.
Technically Nimbus 2.0 is public, just on the GitHUb.
ACNL game server is currently tester-only because for the reason you just said:
The exploit was serious, so they need to make sure everything is working fine.
A release candidate for Nimbus 2.0 is available on github. You can try it out now if you like. However I would not personally recommend it. I just had a conversation with someone in the support forums not too long ago saying their 3DS started crashing when trying to go online after upgrading to Nimbus 2.0, and the problem was not resolved by simply downgrading to the current stable version.
Keep in mind that there are very few paid/full time people at pretendo. Only one person in the “Meet the Team” page on the pretendo website has the title “3DS patch development and research”. Everyone else working on the patch is volunteers working on the project in their free time. ACNL is also not the only game pretendo is currently working on.
I know it sucks waiting so long, but in the long run we would all be worse off if this was rushed.
Jon is the only full time/paid staff member, everyone else is a volunteer.
As far as I know, I think most of the Nimbus 2.0.0 work is by DaniElectra.
Were support helpers involved? We can bring it up to developers if there’s an issue
I think I might see the post you were referring to but I don’t know
This conversation is raising a question for me: If the donation money is intended to have faster updates, why aren’t people hired to do the updates?
The donation money is not intended for faster updates, it’s intended to pay Jon to work full-time and cover various infrastructure costs. Plus, it’s not that easy to hire users outside of the US, for example DaniElectra is in the Canary Islands.
That Dani Electra lives in the Canary Islands??? I live there too.
I just remembered it was in the Pretendo Discord support channel. The thread is named “My 2ds just crashes while trying to do anything pretendo related.”. A user responded with a fix a few days ago.
Ok, that was the thread I was looking at ![]()
Any updates? Fine if their is none
They would be posted if there were. Right now, it’s still being tested (and, presumably, data being gathered).
For those who are testers or know something about them, how are you doing with testing the RCE patch? Is it okay or is it still the same?
Im a tester but im not that intrested in acnl online so my lazy ahh has not installed it yet ![]()
I asked for feedback on the patches on Discord a few days ago and got reports that things are mostly working, but there do seem to be instances where the new plugin causes crashes in some games. Unfortunately our lead 3DS dev has started university so time is a bit thin atm, but we’re aware of the reported issues
I’m not involved with the video, but I just want to share this as an explainer of how the RCE works (it’s explained much better than I could have done). This was produced in collaboration with @PN_Jon and @LosjuegosdeDani, alongside information from Bidziilla.
It was? It’s great to see (one of) my favourite creator(s) collab with Pretendo devs!
