What usually takes games in tester-only so long to turn public

I remember when Ice Station Z went Tester-Only, I saw it happen in real time. That was back in January, why isn’t the game public already? I’m sure a lot of people would like it.

Pokemon gen 6 is still tester only since June 2024…………….

There hasn’t been a lot of work done on it, most of the online features still aren’t supported. The PSS works, but trades and battles don’t work yet. The reason it’s tester only right now is because it isn’t ready to release to everyone yet. Pretendo has a lot of other work to get done first, especially with what happened recently regarding the maintenance they did.

I know that they are working on both 3DS and Wii U games,but….. It’s been over then 2 years and these games are quite wanted by people. I’m not saying they are lazy or not listening to the users but it is anticipated since the Pretendo’s launch. It sucks that these games are still in beta testing:frowning:

I understand how you feel. I’m sure development on the X and Y server hasn’t remained dormant without a good reason. They’re likely just busy with other projects right now.

Pokémon games in particular have way more going on with their online features than other games that used Nintendo Network as well, especially with the GTS. It’s going to take a lot of effort to bring everything back online for the Pokémon games but it’ll happen eventually, just give the developers time.

If you want to give the features that work currently a try, you can upgrade your account. Super Mario tier and above will let you access the tester server, and you can feel good knowing you’re helping keep Pretendo alive by helping cover their server costs. You can leave your friend code in this thread ( 3DS Friend Code Whitelisting for Testing Servers ) to get it whitelisted after you’ve upgraded and the developers are quick to respond to posts there. After you’ve been whitelisted you can connect online like you would for any other Pretendo game.

I’m on X and Y pretty much every day, there isn’t much to do yet but you can send other players messages and add them to your favorites list, so there’s still a little bit you can do. It feels nice playing a Pokémon game and having other players there in some capacity, even if most things don’t work yet.

Well I would love to be one of the testers(mainly because of my respect for Pretendo’s efforts to try making custom servers for a lot of games surviving on donations and their own savings.),but i think that I will wait until the servers are public because then there will be a lot of people playing it and it would be easier for me to communicate with others. It’s the same reason why I didn’t bought the super Mario tier when ACNL was testers-only. There are not many players who are playing it and it isn’t quite complete for me to upgrade my account:downcast_face_with_sweat:

This is a good question.

Simply, it’s up to the developers. And it does appear inconsistent, even to us non-developer Staff members.

:man_shrugging:

As a note, it would be nice to make some of the games that are visibly complete free to the public. I’ve already provided proof of concept to one of the Pretendevs earlier in the year for the game I mentioned. You know quarky, right?

But who would be the judge of ‘visibly complete’?
And even if something is ‘visibly complete’, that doesn’t mean it’s complete on the backend

Heyo, so I said visibly complete because at one point in the year, I tested the game out with a few individuals and made a video about it.

The only issues visible to the player are (infrequent??) disconnections that happen sometimes. during gameplay. but so far, it seems to work decently.

Fair point by it, but like what Josh said, it’s up to the developers.

I agree. I do think there are some games that can probably go to Production, but I’m not really sure how to even approach that topic, genuinely.
