Trial for cosmetic mods in Splatoon

Our rules state:

Gaining an unfair advantage or disrupting the online experience with people who didn’t consent (as in public matches) is a bannable offence.

For the rest of October 2025, we are going to trial loosening restrictions on certain cosmetic mods that were previously not allowed under the “disrupting the online experience” part of that rule.

Until the 1st of November, we will allow use of the following in all gamemodes:

  • Weapon icon and other icon changes
  • Rank changes
  • Turf level and point changes
  • Night mode (server-side)
  • Octoling/Rival Unpatch (already allowed)

The following remains banned:

  • Ink colour changes (server-side)
  • Any other server-sided mods not listed here

Please share this around to other Splatoon-on-Pretendo communities to raise awareness; and please pay attention to the quality of your matches and what it’s like to encounter someone else using cosmetic mods. Some you might remember I had previously attempted this in August but forgot to post the feedback form, so here’s another trial period ^^

I do not think this is a good idea, especially rank changes.

Right now Ranked is too small to actually match users by rank (plus we don’t do proper ranked-spread matchmaking on the server either) so the changes are harmless. I kinda expect this one to change again though if our matchmaking improves.
