Splatoon Banned Stages Weekend Discussion

In case you’re out of the loop, Pretendo Network is currently hosting an event where you can play banned stage+mode combos for the first time since 2016!

You can see a full list of banned stages at the link below.

And for rotations, see OatmealDome’s website.

(p.s. I think OatmealDome will be looking for feedback regarding this once it ends, so I’d recommend leaving feedback in a reply and I’ll see whether I can forward this thread on somehow)

It’s my first time playing Splatoon 1 since server shutdown and playing on Pretendo seems to be pretty smooth. The banned stages gimmick seems fun to play on, I’ve only had one round on RM Blackbelly so far. Decreasing the rotations to 2 hours is nice for this since I’m able to experience more of the event.

:eyes: also just got to play with DUDE

He’s actually insane, I’ve watched him for a bit but you don’t realise how good someone is until you go against them.

Heh, I can tell.
Happen to watch his streams quite often for both S1 and S3 and at least since Pretendo is a thing also happen to play quite often with or against him.

Sadly he had a DC when we played together few minutes back but our team won eventually on Blackbelly

Also have it on my stream, so there’s that :eyes:

I was tempted to stream when I started playing earlier but I didn’t particularly want to. Wish I did as seeing my perspective would have been nice too!

Yeah, unfortunately the same situation happened here too, DUDE and another member of our team disconnected and one member of the other team disconnected too.

I suppose that’s what happens when you’re playing on WiFi (although I was too).

I don’t really watch him often right now, although I honestly should imo. Could do with learning some things when I’m a B rank Aerospray RG player (although it can’t be as bad as playing Clash Blaster currently in 3 :joy:).

Not sure if I’ll get to play any of the other rotations, but despite Blackbelly being banned, it didn’t feel that bad. Rounds weren’t ending quickly for me personally.

HOLY CARAMEL CAKE I GOTTA BOOT UP MY WII U

@GamersInternatio do you know how to stream on wiiu?

OBS and this cheap HDMI Dongle from eBay is all you need.
Well technically a HDMI splitter too because you don’t wanna deal with OBS delay but yea.

Yea, he mentioned in his stream after the DC that his WiiU currently has some WiFi issues but that could as well be his router.

When I started playing Splatoon 3 for real (meaning more so than Turf) I decided to buy the Nintendo LAN Adapter.
Ordered a replica for the WiiU later on as well, in my case I lived in an apartment with lots of radio noise, so going cable was even more of a reason for me to go that route.

Can understand though when people want to keep things comfy.

Event has ended.

OatmealDome is currently looking feedback regarding the event if you’d like to leave some here.

  • Was the event too short or too long?
  • How often did you get to play on a banned stage?
  • Anything else you’d like to mention?

I can’t say much personally considering I only played in one rotation, but I think 3 days is the maximum I’d personally have on an event like this. It would be nice if it was more likely to select banned stages though.

The only other thing I’d like to mention is that communication could have been better over this. Unless you follow a Splatoon-centric account or OatmealDome, you possibly didn’t know about this (it wasn’t announced in the Discord either unfortunately). It would have been cool if the Notifications menu on Wii U could have been used to inform users of the event (although I’m not sure whether it has been implemented yet).

It would be fun to see other gimmicks trialled out in the future though.

i played a lot on port mackerel and i get why it was banned lmao. arowana was fun though but i didnt play any of the other maps

I played personally on Blackbelly and I know it was probably banned for being short, but rounds were lasting a while for me.

I can’t comment on Saltspray Rainmaker as I missed that one, but the rest of the maps were not horrible for me. I wish I could have played more, but due to my own things I couldn’t. I still think the 3 days time was perfectly fine. I actually enjoyed the maps I got to play, Blackbelly Rainmaker was especially fun!
Some rotations could have probably had two banned maps at once? Occasionally the game wouldn’t do the banned map at all for several rounds.
I do hope to see more events like this in the future. Maybe once every couple months?

Me too.

I for one also happened to have played on Hammerhead Splat Zones and that one was rather meh for how comically small the zone really is.

Keep in mind Pretendo is the first time I really get to play S1 past a couple of days on official servers between the beta test of Pretendo and now.
So it was a new experience.
