Hi guys! I’m new to the Nintendo 3DS world and just got a 3DS XL with Pokémon Y. I want to connect to the PSS online, but I’m completely new to the homebrew scene. I heard I need to use Nimbus and Pretendo, but I have no idea how to set everything up. I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain the process to a beginner. Thank you! :).

Pokemon Gen 6 (X&Y and OR/AS) is currently tester-only, without being a tester there is no way to access the Player Search System at this time

You can get tester-access as a donation incentive/thank you by being a donator at the Super Mario tier (US$10/month) or above
Do note that tester servers are exactly that, tester servers. They’re unfinished, may be buggy, missing features and/or fixes which the developers wish to put in. They will be released to the public when they are considered good enough for production

There is more to Pretendo than PSS though, and I’m sure once you get more games if you don’t have anything other than Pokemon Y, you’d be glad you set it up regardless

To use Pretendo Network on a 3DS, you must already be homebrewed, Pretendo Network is not available for stock 3DS family systems

Note: Do not use video guides

  1. Open Universal Updater
  2. Search “luma” and download the Luma3DS boot.firm
  3. Still in Universal Updater, also search “Nimbus” and install it. If you’re not sure which one to pick, choose .cia
  4. Turn off your console
  5. Hold SELECT and turn it back on
  6. Make sure both of the top 2 options have an X in them
    • Enable game patching
    • Enable loading external FIRMs and modules
  7. Hit START to save and return to the 3DS HOME menu
  8. Open Nimbus and press START to allow Nimbus to finish installing
  9. Open Nimbus again and tap on ‘Pretendo’
  10. You should now have finished installing Nimbus and be switched to Pretendo Network

If you’re 100% sure you want to access tester-only servers, keeping in mind the warning above, you can become a donator by using the ‘Upgrade account’ button on the Account Dashboard and choose the Super Mario tier or above

Once you’ve donated, you can head over to the Whitelist Request Thread and send your 3DS Friend Code to be whitelisted
