Pokémon Bank is closing from February 2027

Hey everyone,

I’ve been notified that Pokémon Bank will be closing on Nintendo Network at 2027-02-26T03:00:00Z. This means you will no longer be able to transfer Pokémon’s to Pokémon HOME.

As a reminder, we do not currently support Pokémon Bank and we do not have an ETA for support. Additionally, we have zero plans for supporting HOME as it is an active paid service, plus it is software for the Nintendo Switch which we have zero plans of supporting.

rip bank never used it but im sure some people dread its eventual closing

Now showing up here:

But can we confirm if Pretendo will look into supporting it before the service closes? It would be cool considering people have older Pokemon not usually accessible via other means in the modern games and that way they don’t get lost.

Extreme speed Linoone infinitely comes to mind…

Pretendo Network will never support connecting to the Switch’s services.

PokéMon Bank isn’t on the Switch so I don’t know what you are talking about…

I think what Joshua is talking about is transferring Pokémon to HOME. It won’t be possible once TPC shuts down their services.

That might be true but you can transfer Pokemon from Bank to the 3DS games to THEN connect to Home on 3DS.

Regardless, Pretendo has stated that they will not be supporting the Switch or anything related to it.

You won’t be able to connect to HOME on 3DS once TPC shuts their services

And regardless HOME will be updated to remove Bank support so it’s literally impossible even if we wanted to. Also HOME Tracker IDs are internal so no homebrew solution will ever fix transferring to HOME while keeping legality of your Pokémon.

Time to embrace the end of an era of backwards compatibility transfers since 2002 with Ruby and Sapphire…

I understand not being able or willing to restore HOME functionality to Bank, and this is completely reasonable. From what I’m reading though, and please correct me if I’m wrong, Pokémon Bank will be completely functionless by 2027. You will no longer be able to put in or take out Pokémon even from the older games.

This greatly concerns me, as the 3DS is the main hub for these games. The 3ds is able to play every Pokémon game from gen 7 and below (including the GBA games if you inject them). The switch to my knowledge cannot without homebrew and even then I don’t think that’s compatible with HOME. Pokémon Bank is a crucial program to be able to transfer Pokémon between these games.

I gently ask if the Pretendo team could reconsider their stance on supporting Pokémon Bank in the future. Again, switch functionality not being present is as expected because HOME is an active and paid service, but the rest is a very important program for old-gen Pokémon fans. Thank you <3 I don’t have a switch so when the time comes, I’m not sure where the Pokémon I’ve owned for many many years will go.

I’m not familiar with Pokémon but from what @piplupness has told me, using homebrew to transfer Pokémon sounds like it might make the Pokémon’s you transferred illegal

We’ve never said Bank won’t be supported for transfers between 3DS titles and I’m sure internally, people will certainly look into it given today’s announcement. I’m hoping an official announcement from us will be released later that can go more into detail regarding the shutdown.

Got sent this from piplup and it’s worth reading.

We never said we will not support Pokémon Bank, plans already existed for it years ago, it wasn’t just a priority considering the servers for it are still officially online. A revival would just scrap HOME and support everything else Bank has to offer.

The OP said there is just no ETA (as of any game server), so don’t expect Bank to be supported before February 2027, it’s ready when it’s ready and when the devs have the time to work on it. In case support will not be ready by then, PKSM is your alternative until Bank is supported.

And to reiterate for HOME, let’s just assume we actually want to support HOME for a moment. When you transfer a Pokémon to HOME, it gets assigned a HOME Tracker ID and it gets stored internally in HOME servers, that means if you decide to use PKHeX to edit your save files so you can bring your old Pokémon, they will not go to HOME since they will just be rejected due to not having a valid tracker and therefore illegal. With this conclusion, not only Pretendo will not restore HOME compatiblity, no homebrew project ever will, that means you are on the final moments to transfer everything you care about. No homebrew solution will ever exist and accept that Gen 1-7 will be locked forever from the Switch games. READ: HOME Tracker Value - PKHeX - Project Pokemon Forums

EDIT: oh right, continuing the impossible support theory, they will also remove Bank support from the HOME application entirely with an update, and updates are mandatory to use HOME. RIP

My mistake. I misinterpreted the original post as pretendo has no plans to support Bank at all, but it seems it was just home functionality that they aren’t supporting, which I’m conpletely fine with :] and I don’t mind if there’s no support right away. Development and modding take a lot of time. My fear was that it would never happen
