My cousin really wants to become a pretendo developer, since he likes pretendo. What will he need to do to even become one?

Im not a pretendo dev but im assuming if he helps out alot he might be given a chance to become one but seeing as im not a pretendo dev ignore this

Not the best person to talk about this but you need experience in programming, experience in the inner workings on what you want to work/help on:

If you want to help on the account system for Pretendo, that handles Wii U/3DS and Web, you might need to get used to the “act” structure of the first 2 consoles mentioned and some JS expertise to handle queries and server stuff,

If you want to help on Juxt (UI), which is supported on Wii U/3DS and Web, you might need to get used to JS server side, old WebKit standards for when working on the CSS/HTML/client JS and try to test all changes on the Wii U/3DS browser and optimize it to make a better experience for users

And if you want to help on NEX/Rendez Vous servers you will need to have experience in Go and get used to the inner workings of NEX and Pretendos implementation of it.

TLDR: You need to know what youre doing in what you want to work, test it in different scenarios, and do PRs, helping in positive ways, at some point when you get trust or have the skills, you could become a Pretendo developer, not everyone is lucky enough, it really depends on experience on whatever you work on and know how to handle it, I can think of MatthewL246, which worked on the very impressive Pretendo-Docker to allow people to host, change, and mess with their very own Pretendo instance, and due to his work on it he got Pretendo developer role, very deserved right?

Hopefully you do take my advice in mind if you actually want to have a chance to work on Pretendo.

Yes, this is a very important thing for people to know when they ask “How can I become a developer?” You don’t just get to apply as a developer because you’re interested and have the skills to contribute. The contributions (either on GitHub or otherwise in fields like reverse engineering research) always come before the invitation to become a developer in the core team.
