How do you update Wii U games?

I just bought Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U, and I feel like it probably had an update released at some point (Idk though) and I want to download it if it exists, but my problem is, I forgot how to switch back to Nintendo Network, and I don’t think you can update on Pretendo Wii U. I mean, this happened to me on the 3DS with Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey earlier this year so I’m guessing it’s the same with the Wii U

  1. Press L + Down + Minus (SELECT) to open the plugin menu.
  2. Select Inkay.
  3. Select “Network selection”.
  4. Switch “Connect to the Pretendo network” to false.
  5. Press B until you’re out of the plugin menu. Your console will restart.
  6. Choose your Nintendo Network ID.
  7. When you’re done updating the game, repeat steps 1 to 5, but set “Connect to the Pretendo network” to true.
    The user is using Inkay btw

To check for a game update, try launching the game on Nintendo servers. That will cause it to check and download it. :+1:

I’ve done some research and it seems like 3D World might not have gotten updates at all, if that’s the case, I’ll skip updating the game.

I just double checked using my secret ways of looking at the metadata of Nintendo’s Wii U eShop servers and there was actually no updates, so I can just play without going through the update process.

So the eShop servers still exist for Wii U and 3DS? I know it’s not related, but I was just wondering :sweat_smile:. If they still let us purchase software, I would have bought SO many!

NUS (Nintendo Update Servers) still exists for downloads of console updates, game updates and past purchases only.

Not for new purchases.

NUS is still up, and powers the DSi, Wii, 3DS, Wii U, and (possibly) Switch and Switch 2!

I just got Mario Kart 8, which has updates, so I’ll be checking for updates on that game.
EDIT: Turns out the disc doesn’t work so it has to be replaced :frowning_face:
EDIT 2: My sister bought me a new copy just 1 day later so I can actually use this tutorial (and the game) now
