Help! I can’t link my PNID to my Wii U because it says the info is incorrect!

So I’m trying to connect to the Pretendo stuff; I’ve done the SSSL steps exactly as instructed, and I created my PNID on the website. But I’m linking it to the Wii U and it says that the info is incorrect when it clearly isn’t; the password is so simple it’s not even funny and I’ve even double-checked the DNS: it’s correct... I don’t know what to do! (So much for wanting to play Splatoon 1 again... *grumbles angrily*)

Sounds like you’re not connected to Pretendo servers (some ISPs just block the DNS redirection).

First, do you have an NNID on your Wii U? If so, when you switch to this user, is there an error or does it work just fine?

Switching users works just fine. I even had to try creating a new account through the Wii U itself. Although, now I’m not even sure if I created a NNID or a PNID…

On top of that when I tried to launch the game and connect it said an error occurred. But the DNS is correct; I’m sure of it. All that work for nothing…

If switching users worked, then you’re still on Nintendo servers.

Pretendo servers would have caused an error when trying to log back into the NNID.

So your ISP is blocking the DNS.

There are two options:

  1. Try using a mobile hotspot to try
  2. Mod your console http://wiiu.guide/

… I can try the hotspot thing but modding the console is just not something I can do; I’d like to keep my Wii U unmodded if you really want to know the reason. I’ll come back to this if the hotspot trick works though.
