a bot can bump something that was solved?
It wasn’t marked as solved. I think this is before the Solutions plugin was added
Accordin to the Discourse documentation:
So, a topic that is solved or closed will not be auto-bumped. Sometimes, there will be topics that should have been marked as solved but someone forgot to, so we’ve been marking them as solved soon after they’re bumped.
This is a good thing because it helps keep Support organized and cut down on the backlog of unsolved questions
I’m seeing a number of posts that are being auto-bumped despite being marked as solved. Such as:
These look to have been marked as solved prior to the bump?
Maybe I’m missing something but this makes no mention of not bumping if a topic is solved? Marking a post as solved doesn’t close it, archive it, or make it invisible afaik, they aren’t category description topics. It looks to me like “solved” threads are still able to be bumped?
Hmm, after searching Discourse Meta I found this post claiming that it integrates with Solved:
I’m not 100% sure whether those were marked as solved before or after being bumped because there don’t seem to be any logs for that anywhere, unless I’m missing something.
It also looks like there are at least some solved topics that haven’t been bumped despite being older, like Can't login on 3ds.
I marked them as solved after being bumped.
Thanks to the auto-bumping, we no longer have a backlog of unsolved topics in Wii U Support, Cemu Support, and 3DS Support!
Because of this, I tweaked the bumping settings so that only 2 topics will be bumped per day in the specific console support categories, while 6 can be bumped in Support itself (making up to 12 total, although there will often be fewer). Also, a single topic can’t be bumped more than once per week.
I thought it was still over 50 unsolved topics the last time I checked lol, but that’s good to hear.
I would still like to see some posts excluded from this bumping though, particularly the NAT Type Guide (or anything using guide).
I don’t have an option to exclude tags from bumping, unfortunately. Some smarter bumping settings would be nice. This does lead me into my next question though (which I was going to ask eventually, but might as well say now)…
What should be done to unresolved topics that are unlikely to get solved by further bumping? Ignoring works fine as long as there’s a backlog but will otherwise cause the same topics to be bumped too many times. Currently, we’ve been closing them for the most part, but that’s not always perfect because it prevents anyone from adding a new solution later if one is found.
I see a few options:
- Just close it?
- People won’t be able to reply if a solution is found
- Make a “non-solution” post and mark it as the solution to prevent further bumping?
- A little misleading to mark the topic as solved
- Move to General?
- Now the post is just in the wrong category
- Create some sort of #support-unresolved category without bumping and move them there?
- Might be confusing to have that listed as a subcategory
- Set a manual bump date far into the future so the auto-bump will ignore it?
- It would be strange and confusing to see this at the bottom of a topic
