“All games will eventually be supported”

I have noticed that moderators, especially @GamersInternatio and @MatthewL246_PNID, have to keep responding to others that all games will one day be supported by the Pretendo Network over and over again.

Just going to say this, but the Pretendo Team has said that, apart from @PN_Jon, because this is a free, collaborative initiative, nearly everyone works on the project on their own times when possible!

Not even Jon could possibly known exactly when a game will be fully reversed-engineered because of the above reason! Yes, we can be impatient for these games to be supported, but if we wait long enough, the result will be great. :+1:

There’s no point making a post, FAQ already addresses it.

I also prefer to word it in a way that “the majority of games will be supported” instead of “every game” since there are some games that will be incredibly unlikely to get any support, for example Wii Karaoke U.

I’m also not entirely sure things like Wii Sports Club will get revived? That games a bit of a grey area too.

I believe as more games get supported, Pretendo might be able to provide an ETA since the common infrastructure will be developed (is that right @MatthewL246_PNID?)

there’s one type of game they probably won’t support: shovelware. but no one really cares about those.

There are only 3 requirements for a title to be supported by us:

  1. Used Nintendo’s 1st party Nintendo Network networking library NEX

  2. Is legally possible (see the aforementioned Wii Karaoke U)

  3. Is technically possible (not everything is possible to do just purely on a technical level, such as titles which rely on data which no longer has a source and that we cannot produce ourselves)

So long as a title fits into these 3 categories it is planned to be supported. Doesn’t matter if it’s shovelware or not. We even consider some wiggle room on the first requirement. If a game is dead simple to support and wouldn’t take a drastic amount of development time, then we will consider supporting it.

For example RPG Maker FES is a 3DS title which lets users create their own RPG games. This game did not use Nintendo Network, instead using its own servers. But the servers were so simple I was able to replicate them within an afternoon. So we made a server for it (though it’s not live right now) GitHub - PretendoNetwork/rpg-maker-fes: Replacement server for RPG Maker Fes and RPG Maker Fes Player

I don’t think any shovelware games were actually released for the 3ds. It’s mostly Switch games that tend to be crappy shovelware.

there were some games that nobody cared about though.

That doesn’t matter. Game support is not a popularity contest. If a game fits within the 3 criteria I mentioned before, it will be supported at some point. Even if it never has any players
