Considering the SSSL connection technique is currently being worked on for the Wii U, will at some point it support the 3DS family of products as well?
It depends whether an exploit is found for the 3DS or not.
But doesn’t the Wii U use it’s DNS Settings to use the exploit? (As in, n.nn.nn.nn) If so, can’t it work the same for the 3DS DNS Settings?
No, it’s not that simple. It’s only possible on the Wii U because of a flaw with version 5.5.5 checking whether it was connecting to legitimate Nintendo servers (5.5.6 is identical apart from one text change iirc) but it’s not as simple as changing the DNS.
Yes, you can change your 3DS DNS to access certain services such as Sudomemo and Wiimmfi, but it works different for 3DS titles.
I also thought about that before homebrewing my 3ds so i tried the same process as on wii u and guess what it would not let me log in with my pnid i really didint try playing online but anyways and also why use ssl on 3ds?
Modding it is really easy and for me it was fun as you experience something that with too much luck youll experience again also you get to make your 3ds have more potencial in conclusion its better to mod the 3ds anyways
Ever since I knew pretendo even existed, I’ve always wished that there would be a sssl Verizon for the 3ds… I RELLY NED ANSIRS
What do you mean by a “Verizon” as in the cellular provider?
Version****************
As a SSSL users for a very long time, I have to say pretendo SSSL is HIGHLY unlikely to come to the 3DS, it has to do with a flaw with version 5.5.6 (in Europe it’s 5.5.5 it’s practically the same thing) because with version 5.5.6 the flaw determines of which is Nintendos official servers and what’s not. With the 3DS however, we don’t see the case right now but it’s unlikely that we will find a exploit. I haven’t tried connecting to it on a 3DS and I already have a NINTENDO account on my 2DS. But you see the newest 3DS update was to brick peoples homebrew. But who knows! Maybe it will come to the 3DS family.
EDIT* this may not be accurate, go down below and see the discussion with @Joshua8600PNID
This is not quite correct.
SSSL used to exist on 3DS, but Nintendo patched it long ago - and they never try to brick a modded console, but instead try to stop 3DS flashcarts from being used for piracy.
They just never patched the SSSL exploit on Wii U.
Ah I see why, I keep hearing the last update for the 3DS was to brick modded consoles so I guess I said that. Why did Nintendo patch it? If you do know when did they patch it? I guess that’s why you never see 3DS flash carts around
If you mean a black screen with an older luma version, that is not a brick.
But newer system firmware + older luma= black screen until newer luma on SD card.
Oh I guess that’s what I meant, the video that I watched was from April of 2023 I think and it was when the last update of the 3DS was released and so they had to surpass this update by updating there Luma 3DS and then they safely update.i don’t know much about the 3DS hacking scene and much about how the 3DS works and it’s internals so. I have a 3DS though but like I said I don’t know much about it
Yeah I don’t think there really was a brick risk, just it being unusable until Luma was updated. It wasn’t a brick though in any means. People use that term way too loosely.
Agreed, the term "brick " (in terms of a console) has been used to loosely and too much, can you believe some people think when your auto booting Aroma/Tiramisu and the graphical glitches appear they think it’s bricked? Also A BRICK IN ALL CONSOLES IS RARE, and people think (I used to think it too) that modding your console increases your chances of brick, people need to realize that a BRICK COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE regardless if you have CFW, it’s just if you improperly install Homebrew software or have a not so good homebrew software on your system.
It depends on the system and methods used to mod.
Bricks are rare, but some systems like the DSi can be bricked period during the initial modding process because the DSi wasn’t made for that.
But this is why we only recommend official guides, because old outdated video guides can lead to a brick.
(Anyway, this is unrelated to the topic at-hand.)
Lol I had no idea I wanted to point this out anyways ahem SSSL on 3DS. I have actually thought about it before but have never tried it because I have a Nintendo network account linked to my unmodded 2DS. But I had thought about it and I used to think maybe it would work but there has to be a SSSL module flaw within the Update. But it would be cool if SSSL would come to the 3DS, some of us are scared to mod our console, others (like me) feel like modding a 3DS is very hard, I have restored CFW to my friends 3DS and that was already very hard to do. I would love to mod it I just don’t have enough time and it’s just to hard for me at least but for others it may be easy. But i believe that it’s highly unlikely that SSSL will come to 3DS unfortunately
