Things coming to the next version of Inkay (v2.7.0)

Thought I’d list the things we’re working on for the next Inkay version - which will likely be named v2.7.0. These features are Coming Soon, they are not yet finished.

  • P2P port number overrides: For supported games (currently Minecraft: Wii U edition, Splatoon, and Mario Kart 8), the network port number used for multiplayer will be fixed instead of random.
The idea is that you can forward this UDP port in your router and get “DMZ”/Nat Type A without needing to significantly expose your console.
If you forward the port, it might improve connectivity and reduce 118- errors, especially when hosting for players on poor NAT types.
A Cemu version of this patch was added to the community graphics packs on Dec 13.

  • Extra languages: Inkay is available on Weblate for community translations - thank you to everyone who’s been contributing to this! Inkay will switch languages according to your console’s system language.

    • German (de_DE)
    • lolcat (en@uwu) (Can’t actually be selected right now)
    • English (en_US)
    • Spanish (es_ES)
    • French (fr_FR)
    • Italian (it_IT)
    • Japanese (ja_JP)
    • Dutch (nl_NL)
    • Portuguese (Brazil) (pt_BR) (mentioned!)
    • Russian (ru_RU)
    • Chinese (Simplified) (zh_CN)
    • Chinese (Traditional) (zh_Hant)
  • Module split: Inkay will have a .wms file in addition to its .wps. We recommend allowing the Aroma Updater to manage this for you. Thankfully we’re getting ahead of future Aroma updates now instead of being broken by them

  • Reduced logging activity: If you’re a network admin or generally have a lot of Wii Us, you’ll hopefully appreciate the reduced logging in the next version. Only errors will be broadcast out on non-development builds.

One really small change for a version of Inkay is to fix the touch effect color in the Miiverse applet, since it still appears as green, im not sure if its a BFLYT thing or just, not in the actual RPX of the app, but i assume it could be patched, because it kind of looks off the normal touch effect and the navigation box look purple but the actual touch effect doesnt

not sure if this was updated at some point havent used juxt in long, i could be wrong tho

There is a patch for the touch effect added in early 2023. Whether it works is another question, though.

I think there’s a minor typo

Good catch, thank you.

It’s really nice to see this information announced publicly here!

That’ll be incredibly helpful, as in the NAT type guides, we’re currently suggesting to forward everything from 1024-65535 which wasn’t the best solution.

With this fix, I might be able to finally achieve a full 8-player server with no interruptions! I will admit it is very annoying with the game disconnects from pretendo network for whatever reasons or just crashes randomly so I’m very glad the devs are taking action on this!

Glory to pretendo
