Hey all,
I just wanted to make a public statement on the recent Tweet from Nintendo customer service. As of right now, we are not concerned and operations will continue as normal.
The Tweet was made from a Japanese customer service account and contains a simple word of caution on using unofficial online services for WiiU. We believe this Tweet to be a liability statement so Nintendo makes it clear they are not responsible for unofficial services. Nintendo doesn’t issue warning shots, they simply send lawyers to deal with it and wouldn’t use a Tweet as a warning.
- Nintendo is right that Homebrew can be risky - you should always be cautious and ensure that you research and vet projects to ensure your own safety.
- Pretendo is open source, anybody can inspect the source code and assess the safety: https://github.com/PretendoNetwork
- We are committed to user safety for old and new consoles. We’ve reported multiple security issues to Nintendo and published patches for vulnerable games: https://github.com/PretendoNetwork/rce_patches
So while we do understand Nintendo’s warning, and understand that there is some truth in the inherent risk of installing 3rd party software, our services are open for users to vet for themselves and our team cares deeply about user safety not just on our platforms but even trying to help Nintendo’s modern ones as well.
