On Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 4:30 PM, we will be performing maintenance on game servers for Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Maker. These specific functions will be affected in each game:
- Mario Kart 8: Online play will be unstable during the maintenance period
- Super Mario Maker: You will not be able to browse or play Course World levels during the maintenance period
This downtime is expected to last for up to 3 hours and our team will ensure that services are back up as soon as possible. We will notify users when this maintenance period starts and when this ends.

Will this be for both 3ds and Wii u
Mario Maker affects both Wii U and 3DS, yes.
MK8 is only Wii U (MK7 unaffected)

The maintenance scheduled for today has started. This will take up to 3 hours.

As shown above, we’ve had some very unfortunate timing with our maintenance.
We are taking steps to ensure network problems like this won’t happen again.
Everything should be back up and running.
There is one exception: Mario Kart 8 will be unavailable until the MK8 server admin can resolve the issue.
