It most likely won’t be possible, but is Pretendo planning to make some sort of CDN to distribute patches for the games like during Nintendo Network should the need arise? Like, if Splatoon network play had a bug, an unofficial 2.12.2 patch would be distributed?
I don’t think you have to worry about bugs being introduced to games that are no longer in service. If anything, Pretendo would be where such a bug lies, and that’s what would be patched.
While that is true, it is possible for people to find new exploitable bugs in old games.
Pretendo has actually distributed RCE patches in the past, and we may do so again if more dangerous exploits get discovered. They would most likely be distributed as Aroma plugins instead of full game updates due to copyright reasons.
Ah, that is true. When I think “vulnerability”, I don’t equivocate that with the word “bug”, even though it definitionally is. That’s just how my brain works, and I think it’s because I always think of them in a positive context when it comes to video games.
Yeah, I don’t think there would be any reason for us to patch positive bugs. We aren’t Nintendo
