Network lag on Pretendo at console boot?

I noticed it takes more time sometimes to connect on Pretendo, and to show the games being played on the network.

I’ve been wondering if it’s on my side, or if it’s on the network. But i played some of my games installed on my external hard drive, and there’s no problem there. So i think it might be network lags, taking a bit more time than usual loading stuff on the console, maybe due to network spikes.

Does such things happen on your side too? Like when you see your Mii, and it takes a bit more time to load the “games being played” screen, which feel like it’s a network lag (no idea how it’s called, still kinda new on a Wii U.)

Yes, It is Pretendo’s side when booting up the console but I don’t have issues with the network taking time to show the games besides being stuck on a “please wait” screen for a good minute when selecting a user separate from my NNID but if you played Mario Maker then it can be both your WiFi and the network (Mostly the network). It takes awhile just to load up Mario Maker to play a level or even replay it but from my experience I’ve played it at night and it doesn’t take as long to replay a level or wait on something to load (slightly) I say replay because for some reason when you play the same level over and over again it will keep counting your total clears and plays on your profile but as for Nintendo network you can’t gain anymore clears from the same level but you can add plays for the level itself which is kinda how SMM2 works. However they do say that this is supposed to replicate Nintendo servers so therefore it would replicate the features but it’s been a good while since I played the original Mario maker so I may not be accurate on that part for gaining clears on the same level for original servers. There are options that haven’t been replicated yet though such as getting world records for a level, playing 100 Mario challenge which only works on 3DS from what I heard and makers tab for star rankings. Sorry for going off topic with Mario maker but that’s the only game I have problems with that takes awhile to load to tell you things that happen on my side from what you asked.

It might depend on your location. I think Nintendo had multiple servers in different locations to keep connection times down, but Pretendo only has one (since we of course have much less funding than Nintendo).

It also might just be Pretendo’s servers being slower than Nintendo’s. I don’t know if it’s been benchmarked, but it’s entirely possibile considering ours are reverse engineered.

i don’t have lag problems normally, so that may happen because of higher traffic on Pretendo at certain time of the day/night, or because Pretendo is getting more and more popular with time and may have to upgrade the server at some point?

You’re definitely correct we have different numbers of players at different times, that is likely a factor if the lag is worse at specific times. Fun fact: it generally ranges from 1000 to 2000 players based on the number of users connected to the friends server (which includes everyone who’s online on Pretendo).

We do actually have plans (that have been developing over several months) to upgrade our infrastructure, so hopefully that will help. No ETA though.
