I want to remove system flags for software updates

I am a recently new member to the wii u hacking community. I installed Aroma environment and many other hacks all without little issue. I’ve also installed Pretendo, and have used it to play both Minecraft and Splatoon online. I initially created a separate account with my PNID, but I recently deleted that account, and using the Wii U Account Swap app on the Wii U HB store, I switched my main account to use the same PNID.

After that, every time I’ve tried to launch Splatoon, my system has forced me to update before I can play the game. When I initially started playing Splatoon, I installed update v272 [moderator note: I think this is v2.12.0 iirc] using the eShop (I am playing using a physical disc).

I was able to play the game online when that update was installed. However, because my system will now only let me play the game when I install the newer update, whenever I boot up the game, it gets stuck on the loading screen. This also happens on accounts without a PNID or NNID connected to them.

The game will work if I disable aroma, but I want to be able to play online. After looking around for all the information I could find online, it seems there is some sort of flag on my system that forces me to update Splatoon before I can even play it.

However, this update won’t work with aroma, and no matter how many times I reinstall the older version (v272), the system insists I update the game to the most recent version. Is there any way to remove the flag that forces the system update the game? Or is there another, better solution for this issue?

I’m personally not sure where the flag is located, although I wouldn’t be surprised if someone more knowledgeable about general homebrew stuff than me (like the people over at GBATemp) knows. Is there a reason why you need to use the older version?

I found a GBATemp post that might help?

Have you tried just updating the game? v272 (v2.12.0) isn’t the latest version now, instead that’s v288 (v2.12.1).

That might stop the issue from popping up and there’s no difference between the two versions other than v288 solving a remote code execution vulnerability.

I didn’t realize update v288 could work with Pretendo, which is why I thought it was the problem. I have installed that update, but for some reason, the game won’t load when I open the game while using the aroma environment. The game does work when I open it without using the aroma environment. So maybe, I did something to aroma that stops the game from working? I’m not having any other issues similar to this with any other wii u games.

I would still like to try blocking the game updates using the FTP plugin, to see if maybe the game still works on (v272). However, I’m just not knowledeable enough about Wii U hacking in order to figure out how to do that.

v288 should work. Do you have any Splatoon mods installed? They might need to be updated or removed.
