I need help with Miiverse and eShop

I can’t use it because when I try to use the services it keeps giving me code 115-2004

Yeah, discussions around this and another app is a grey area. I think the Lite version is on the HB App Store which makes this confusing?

I would advise not to talk about it honestly given it can be used for piracy and Pretendo is trying to be careful over it.

So… if I WERE to log onto Pretendo and buy something from the eShop, would that be ok?

You can’t buy anything on the eShop on your Pretendo profile anyways and never will

They might distribute homebrew apps and games in the future but they will be free

So… buying StreetPass games from the salesbunny is out of the question, then.

Yes, because they would be illegally distributing Nintendo’s intellectual property.

But… technically Nintendo don’t own them anymore. Not actively, I mean.

Nintendo still arguably actively uses the copyright in Smash tbh lol

As much as I think laws are outdated around this sort of stuff, it is illegal for Pretendo to redistribute any of the StreetPass games without permission from Nintendo.

What do you mean?

Oh…

This is exactly correct. If Pretendo does not have the right to redistribute content, we simply cannot legally do it. One can argue that it is not morally wrong to do so, or that copyright laws are outdated and unfair, but this does not change the reality that we simply cannot legally redistribute this content.

Jon commented more on the topic of a Pretendo eShop in the Discord announcements channel on 2/15/2022:

I wanted to comment on Pretendo’s plans in regards to the eShop closure

Secondly, NO, WE WILL NOT BE DISTRIBUTING GAMES OR OTHER APPS/TITLES THROUGH A PRETENDO ESHOP! While the infrastructure is there, we will NOT be supporting piracy of any kind on our platform or community. Piracy is NOT about price or profits, it’s about rights to distribute given content. We do not, and will not ever, have the rights to distribute any official WiiU or 3DS titles! As for homebrew or romehacks on the eShop, yes that is possible. However it is too much of a hassle to be worth it. Rom hacks would still require the base game to be distributed along with the modifications, since the eShop can only distribute full titles. We cannot distribute those base games. As for homebrew, there are much better solutions to that already. One of the biggest issues would be update management. Currently there is NO WAY to package a custom update title, any titles packaged as updated fail to install making update management nearly impossible. Also very little homebrew is even compatible with the eShop title format, and would need to be completely rewritten to support it. On top of that Aroma/Tiramisu provides the ability to have homebrew displayed as a channel. Given these reasons we decided to not go forward with any homebrew eShop either

TL;DR: Pretendo will most likely never use the eShop for anything related to downloading apps or games.

Shoot.
(as in, very disappointing)

You could alway rip and dump games if you own or a friend has a copy of the game(s) so its a legal copy.

But none of the StreetPass games have ever had physical versions.

Neither did some eshop games. An yet they have fan servers. The only difference between a game card, preinstalled ganes, and a eshop download is where the files are stored. The 3ds street pass games can still have there online restored. Since the streetpass feature works about the same way as miiverse on wiiu.

Oh really? Because I had this cool idea at school today where, if you were connected to the Pretendo servers and you wanted to get the rest of the StreetPass minigames (not Quest and Puzzle Swap), you could receive a brand-new version of whichever minigame you wanted (or even StreetPass Mii Plaza Premium, if you were so desperate about it) via the internet in a way that wasn’t illegally distributing Nintendo’s old software.

If mii street plaza could return in anyway that would be awsome. Tho mii vote channel, and everyone votes channel based on the wii channels would be awsome to see.

Since, a voting channel could let us vote on what wed like to see with pretendo. Like maybe seasonal miiverse music or something. While, a mii vote channel would let us shaire and rate other users miis like on the wii. Which was alot of fun.

Or, for fun what if there was a wiiu app. That used the camera for some kind of app. Or maybe some kind of port of osu for wiiu and 3ds.

Heck even a photo game where you take pictures of miis doing random stuff. So people could rate the photos could be a interesting app if anyone makes it work .

All excellent ideas!

I’m looking at this post and I’m utterly confused on how we got so side tracked on the eShop part that we never dealt with the other part of this post.

I’m going to fix your title since I’ve only just realised movers is supposed to mean Miiverse.

Error code 115-2004 shows up on Miiverse when you’re accessing it through SSSL, as the exploit doesn’t affect applets. Mod your Wii U using the guides at https://wiiu.hacks.guide and then set your DNS to auto-obtain and follow the Inkay installation steps at https://pretendo.network/docs/install/wiiu.

And regarding eShop, it probably wouldn’t work on SSSL even if we did run eShop servers (we have already discussed why we have no plans to above).

(nvm this post is marked as solved but it isn’t showing it in the titlebar, great job Discourse)
